Four-time champions India stormed into the final of the SAFF Women’s Championship for the 5th time in a row eliminating youthful Bangladesh by 4-0 goals in the 2nd semifinal of the regional soccer meet at Shahid Rangashala in the Nepalese city of Biratnagar on Wednesday.
With the feat, India maintained their unbeaten record in the SAFF Women’s Championship playing 23 matches since its inception in 2010 winning all four previous editions and will play Himalayan nation and hosts Nepal in the final on Friday (March 22) at the same venue.
In Wednesday’ semifinal, last-time runners-up Bangladesh conceded three quick goals in the first half in a span of only 19 minutes in the elimination round of the 5th version of the South Asian Women’s Football.
Bangladesh team reached the last four stage of the meet as the Group A runners-up losing to hosts Nepal by 0-3 goals in their 2nd match after beating Bhutan by 2-0 goals in the first match while India stormed into semifinals as Group B champion with all-win record outplaying the Maldives by 6-0 goals and Sri Lanka by 5-0 goals.
Nepal reached the semifinals as the Group A champions with all-win record beating Bhutan and Bangladesh by 3-0 goals each while Bangladesh a managed semifinal berth as the Group A runners-up eliminating Bhutan by 2-0 goals.
