Faridpur, Sep 2 (UNB) – Thirty people were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League over a trifling matter at Kandakul village in Boalmari upazila on Monday.
Locals said Md Harunur Rashid, science and technology affairs secretary of Boalmari upazila Awami League and Md Akter Hossain, local Union Parishad member, had been in loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area for a long period.
Ashutosh Bhoumik, officer-in-charge of Boalmari Police Station, said followers of the two leaders engaged in a clash over the sound system on Monday morning. They attacked opponents with sharp weapons, leaving 30 injured from both sides.
On information, police went to the spot and brought the situation under control, said the OC, adding that additional police officers have been deployed in the area to avoid deterioration of the situation.
However, the injured are being treated at Faridpur Medical College Hospial.
