Kushtia, July 28 (UNB)- A 90-year-old woman was rescued at Jugiya village in Sadar upazila six hours after she attempted suicide by jumping into the Gorai River early Sunday.
She is identified as Hemla, a mother of three sons and wife of late Taijal Islam of the village
Ayub Ali, a boatman of the river, said he rescued the elderly woman around 6am on Sunday after a local woman spotted her floating in the river near Khanpur village.
Later, she was taken to a nearby house in Khanpur village where she received initial treatment.
Asked about the reason behind her suicide attempt, the woman said she wanted to kill herself due to the torture of her daughters-in-law.
‘’The river even did not swallow me,’’ she lamented in tearful eyes.
However, her son Khaibar Ali said Hemla was in her room till 12am. Failing to find her in her room, they were searching for her.
There was a family feud between her and her daughters-in-law, admitted the son.
