The deceased was identified as Jotish Majumdar, 45, of Charbardail area.
Quoting locals, Sub-inspector Eklas Hossainof Savar Model Police Station said a group of miscreants abducted Jotish when he went to Nama Bazar for purchasing daily commodities.
Later, the abductors demanded Tk 60,000 from the victim’s family as ransom over phone.
Following the incident, a written complaint was lodged with the police station on the same day.
Meanwhile, police arrested prime suspect Md Halim, 35, in this connection and according to his statement they recovered the body from a ditch on a riverbank.
Later, the body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the SI added.
On the other hand, police also recovered two bodies, including that of a woman, from Kartalpur and Ashulia, police said.
