Officer-in-charge of Shahjahanpur Police Station Azim Uddin said the shredded notes were dumped using a truck of Bogura municipality in the morning.
Informed by locals, a team of police went to the spot around 11 am and recovered 10 sacks of shredded notes, he said.
Many locals those collected those for using as fuel, the OC said.
Bogura municipality Slum Development Officer Rafiul Abedin said they were urged by the Deputy General Manager of BB’s district branch through a letter to dump the cancelled and obsolete notes as wastage.
“As per their request, a truck of the municipality dumped the cancelled notes,” he said.
BB DGM (Banking) Al Imran said the desolate notes were torn apart through machines which cannot be joined again.
Bangladesh Bank has huge amount of such wastage which will be dumped through the municipality, he said.
A source at the Bangladesh Bank said obsolete currency notes were not burned to ashes fearing environmental pollution.
