Better coordination among stakeholders needed for youth development: Minister

Planning Minister MA Mannan on Saturday stressed the need for better coordination among public, private stakeholders and experts for the sake of the country’s youth development as they are key force of economic development.
The minister said this at a webinar dialogue titled ‘Youth Budget Framework: An Appraisal,’ jointly organised by South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) and ActionAid Bangladesh.
Research Director of SANEM Dr Sayema Haque Bidisha moderated the function while its Senior Research Associate Eshrat Sharmin presented the keynote paper.
Nahim Razzaq, Member of Parliament (MP) and Convener of Young Bangla - National Youth Platform said the coordination issue is very much important for the development works.
“We have to improve our youth skills to survive in the job market. So innovative ideas are needed,” he added.
He also said the government set up Bangladesh National Skills Development Council (NSDC) to improve youth skills. “But we did not notice NSDC made a good action plan for the sake of youth skills improvement,” he added.
Farah Kabir, Country Director of ActionAid Bangladesh said, “We have been working with youths for several years. Now we should make innovative frameworks for the sake of youths.”
Dr. Md. Omar Faruque, Joint Secretary at Technical and Madrasah Education Division of the Education Ministry, said they emphasis on technical and vocational education to improve youth skills.
“Technical education budget should be increased. Skilled and experienced PDs should be appointed to implement projects properly,” he also said.
Executive Director of SANEM Dr. Selim Raihan, Executive Director at Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Dr. Fahmida Khatun, Professor of Development Studies Department at Dhaka University Dr. Abu Eusuf spoke in the programme.
Additional Secretary at Secondary and Higher Education Division Md Belayet Hossain Talukdar, Additional Secretary at Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md. Nazibul Islam,Deputy Secretary at Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Ferdousi Begum, , Deputy Secretary at Ministry of Social Welfare Khadiza Nazneen also participated there.
