AL central committee member Marufa Akter Popy went to the striking BCL men at the base of Raju Memorial Sculpture in the evening and conveyed the assurance.
Following the assurance, the BCL leaders and activists, who did not get position or expected post in the recently announced central committee, broke their strike sipping water after three days.
Spokesperson of the deprived fraction and former planning and programme affairs secretary, Rakib Hossain, said, “We have faith in our party general secretary and that’s why we called off the strike after his assurance.”
He also said they went to AL Dhanmondi office to meet Obaidul Quader.
Earlier, the post-deprived BCL men staged demonstrations at the base of Raju Memorial Sculpture for the 33 consecutive days.
The deprived leaders alleged that the new committee had many leaders with criminal records part from non-students, drug abusers, drug dealers, married people and disputed individuals.
On May 15, BCL revealed the list of 16 ‘controversial leaders’, who were awarded different posts in the committee.
Following the announcement of its 301-member full-fledged central committee on May 13, at least two factional clashes took place, leaving at least 15 people injured.
