Zarina Khatun, 45, was killed inside a moving bus and then thrown off it along with her father Akber Ali, who survived, by some bus employees including the driver, on the Dhaka-Tangail highway at Moragang on November 9.
Police recovered the body of Zarina from the area on being informed by Akber Ali.
The diabolical murder was masterminded by Nur Islam, Khatun’s son-in-law, who along with his accomplices reportedly confessed to paying transport workers Tk 10,000, as part of the scheme to have the victims killed and their bodies disposed off a running bus.
Hired killers, the bus helper and two of its contractors first pushed off Akbar Ali from the running bus at Moragang area of Ashulia. Then they strangled Zarina to death and pushed her off onto the highway, said Banaj Kumar Muzumder, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) while briefing reporters at its Dhanmondi headquarters on Saturday.
DIG Banaj Kumar said after investigation, they arrested Nur Islam, the husband of Zarina’s daughter Ruzina, his mother Amina Begum, and another person known as Shapan. The bus was also seized but all four transport workers- the driver, helper, and two contractors- involved in the murder were absconding, he said.
Nur-Islam, filed a case with Ashulia Police Station accusing some unnamed people in connection with the incident.
Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam of Ashulia police station said Zarina had come to visit her daughter at Gazirchar area of Ashulia on November 9. Accompanied by her father, she had boarded a Tangail-bound bus from Gazirchar bus stand the same evening. Little did she know she was actually boarding a diabolical death-trap laid by her son-in-law over an obscure ‘family feud’.
