“If Dr Kamal claims or anyone tries to claim him as the formulator of the Constitution, I don’t accept it. People shouldn’t accept it. This Parliament shouldn’t accept it. The reason is that he was only the Chairman… all (members of the committee) had contributions to it,” he said.
The Deputy Speaker was presiding over the session on Sunday night just before its adjournment until Monday afternoon.
He made the remarks after independent MP Tahjib Alam Siddique criticised Dr Kamal Hossain taking floor on the point of order.
Fazle Rabbi said a 34-member Constitution Drafting Committee had been in the Ganoparishad. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman made Dr Kamal chairman of the committee.
“He had been able to be the chairman only because of Bangabandhu’s compassion for him. Or else, any other barrister or Member of Parliament could have been the chairman,” he said, adding that what Dr Kamal talks in the name of Okyafront is rejected by the country’s people.
“He was rejected by the people of Bangladesh. He has already been condemned,” the Deputy Speaker said, adding that he was making the remarks to keep those in the record of Parliament.
Earlier, Tahjib Alam Siddique alleged that Dr Kamal Hossain created new political polarisation shunning his long progressive spirit out of the greed for power.
He said Dr Kamal formed the new alliance with fundamental and communal forces only to use them as stairs to come to power.
