Cox’s Bazar, July 31 (UNB) – A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) near the Marine Drive area of Teknaf upazila on early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Ibrahim, 22, son of Syed Ali of Teknaf.
BGB-2 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Foysal Hasan Khan said a BGB team signalled a Cox’s Bazar-bound auto-rickshaw to stop around 4am.
“But criminals ignored the signal and fired on the BGB team, triggering a gunfight,” he said.
After a while, the criminals got down from the vehicle and continued firing. After the skirmish, the BGB members recovered the body of Ibrahim, the CO said.
Three other criminals – Nur Hossain, Abul Kashem and Abu Taher – were wounded in the gunfight but managed to flee, the BGB officer said.
BGB said its team also recovered 20,000 yaba pills, a gun and two sharp weapons from the spot.
