“I’ve initiated a positive change in urban management,” Khokon told the media after an Iftar and Dua Mahfil at Intercontinental Hotel.
When he took charge, he said the DSCC coffer was empty and roads were filled with holes and waste, with most of the street lights not working.
“We’ve totally changed the city and the development is now visible,” he said.
In four years, Khokon said that his administration has installed 41,143 LED street lights and installment of another 15,000 bulbs is underway in 18 newly-formed wards.
“We’ve also developed 669km roads, 631km drainage, and 133km footpaths,” the mayor said. “The development of 600km road, 500km drainage and 100km footpaths is underway.”
Khokon said the perennial waterlogging problem at Shantinagar, Nazimuddin, Gonoktuli and Bangshal has been solved.
He also mentioned his success in the development of parks and playgrounds, bus route rationalisation, construction of passenger sheds and traffic management.
Educationist Abul Maksud, DSCC Chief Executive Officer Mostafizur Rahman, Chief Engineer Rezaul Karim, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Jahid Hossain, among others, attended the press conference.
The Iftar was joined among others by Speaker Shirin Sharmin Choudhury, representatives of civil society, and ward councillors.
