"The decision to withdraw the SP has been taken on specific allegations," EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said at a press briefing on Wednesday night.
The EC move came after the BNP-led 20-party alliance placed a demand for removal of the police official.
Earlier in the day, the EC sent a letter to the Public Security Division to withdraw the SP.
In the letter, the EC asked the division to give the charge of the SP to another official.
On November 25, the 20-party alliance placed a written demand for removal of the Narayanganj SP saying that they are in doubt whether he discharges the election duty neutrally as his wife Fatema Tuzzahura is a Member of Parliament from the reserved seat.
Earlier on November 26, the Deputy Commissioner of Natore was withdrawn.
Besides, the Commission has already asked to withdraw the officers-in-charge of Louhajang and Mithapukur police stations.
