“Conducting appropriate investigations into corruption cases is a very important task. The Anti-Corruption Commission will have to take necessary steps to enhance the efficiency and capability of the investigation officers,” he said when an ACC delegation, led by its Chairman Iqbal Mahmood, met him at Bangabhaban.
During the meeting, the ACC team submitted the annual report for the year 2018 to the President.
“The ACC chairman apprised the President of various aspects of the report during the meeting. The delegation also highlighted various activities to prevent corruption,” President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told UNB after the meeting.
Seeking President’s cooperation in carrying out the ACC activities, Iqbal Mahmood said the government has been providing all-out assistance in its efforts to curb corruption.
The President said the Commission will have to ensure that corrupt elements are punished, no matter who they are, and that the innocent are not harassed unnecessarily.
He also directed it to launch campaign against corruption in the services sectors, including education and health. "Bangladesh is now graduating to a developing country. Corruption must be stamped out from the society to continue this development trend. To keep the new generation away from corruption, motivational activities should be conducted.”
ACC Commissioners AFM Aminul Islam and Mozammel Haque Khan were present during the meeting.
