The programme took place at Gulshan’s Azad mosque in the capital after Asr prayers.
Prayers were offered at the programme seeking salvation of Ershad’s departed soul.
Veteran politician Nur-E-Alam Siddique, Awami League senior leaders Tofail Ahmed, Mohammad Nasim, former Chief Whip ASM Firoz, PM’s adviser Salman F Rahman, Jatiya party acting chairman GM Quader, senior co-chairman Raushon Ershad, secretary general Moshiur Rahman Ranga, presidium members Anisul Islam Mahmud, Ruhul Amin Howlader, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, Syed Abul Hossain Babla, Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Faisal Chisti, Hazi Saifuddin Ahmed Milon, former minister ABM Golam Mostafa, Gonoshasthya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, Ershad’s relatives ad well-wishers, among others, attended the programme.
In a brief address, GM Quader recalled various activates carried out by his brother for the welfare of people of all religions in the country.
He said huge people joined Ershad’s four janazas manifesting their love and affection for him.
Quader expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as she constantly enquired about the health condition of Ershad when he had been undergoing treatment at Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
He also appreciated the CMH doctors for cordially providing treatment to his brother.
Tofail Ahmed said though he had differences of opinion with Ershad, he had respect for him. “Ershad was a humble and modest person,” he said.
The ruling party leader prayed for the eternal peace of Jatiya Party chairman’s departed soul.
Ershad who died on Sunday was laid to eternal rest on Tuesday at Polli Nibash in his hometown Rangpur where he was the most admirable political figure for over three decades.
