Pabna, Sept 15 (UNB) – The probe body formed by the local administration to look into the ‘forced marriage’ of a gang-rape victim to one of the rapists at a police station has found the allegation to be true.
Additional District Magistrate Zahid Newaz, chief of the three-member committee constituted on September 12 at the order of the Cabinet Division, submitted the report to Deputy Commissioner Kabir Mahmud on Sunday night.
Talking to reporters, the DC said the probe panel prepared the report after visiting the spot, and talking to victim’s family and locals. “I’ll forward the report to the Cabinet Division tonight (Sunday night),” he said around 8:30pm.
According to newspaper reports, the victim who is a housewife had an extramarital affair with Russel Hossain, a youth from her neighborhood in Shahpur Jasadal village of Pabna Sadar upazila.

On August 29, Russel along with his accomplices -- Hossain driver, Shariful Islam Ghantu, Sanju and Osman -- abducted the housewife and raped her in turns for four days at different places.
The victim, however, managed to flee and her relatives admitted her to hospital on September 6.
The officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station did not record any case and instead married the victim with Russel at the police station on September 6 when she approached police.
Meanwhile, OC Obaidul Haque has been withdrawn and sub-inspector Ekramul Haque suspended over the incident.
Besides, police arrested all the five accused in the case.
