Benapole Customs authorities have written the chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) seeking investigation either by the Detective Branch (DB) or Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) into the looting of gold from its vault.
Benapole Customs Commissioner Belal Hossain Chowdhury told UNB that they have sent a letter to the NBR chief recently seeking investigation by the DB or PBI to unearth the mystery.
Sometime during the weekly and Eid-Miladunnabi holiday on November 8-10, burglars broke open the vault of the warehouse of the Benapole Customs House and looted 17 kg gold.
Customs House Revenue Officer (RO) Md Emdadul Haque filed a case with Benapole Port Police on November 11 in this regard.
Belal said five officials, including vault in-charge Sahabul Sardar, were suspended over the incident.
Jassore Police Superintendent Moinul Haque said they detained seven people for interrogation over the incident.
