Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Monday said that the government is successfully handling the multi-faceted crisis triggered by the local outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, even in the face of resource constraints.
The information minister, also ruling party AL’s press and publications secretary, came up with the assessment while talking to journalists at the Secretariat.
Slamming BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam for his recent criticismof the government’s handling of Covid-19, he said “He is not standing beside the people but slamming government and that does not identify him as a responsible man.”
Bangladesh’s condition is much better than many other countries, he claimed adding that “Although our health system is not like Europe-America but we should remember that ours is a densely populated country.”
Health authorities on Monday confirmed infection of 1,41,801 after while 1,783 people have died since March 18, due to COVID-19 in country.
If the government had failed to control the situation, the death rate in Bangladesh would not have not been less than India, Pakistan, China, US and many countries of Europe, Mahmud said.
Talking about closure of state owned Jute Mills recently, the minister said that the mills were not shut rather measures have been taken to resume them properly after overhaul.
