An HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam rejected the petitions of the five accused seeking anticipatory bail in the case and directed them to surrender before the lower court.
The four other accused are CAAB executive engineer Mihir Chand Dey, its former assistant engineer Bhabesh Chandra Sarkar, former manager of Cox’s Bazar Airport Hasan Zahir and owner of contractor firm ‘Dhaka International Traders’ Shahabuddin.
Senior lawyer AM Amin Uddin stood for the accused while deputy attorney general AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.
On January 6, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) deputy director Muhammad Mahbubul Alam filed the case against six people, including the five, with Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station.
According to the case statement, all the five accused in collusion with each other withdrew Tk 60.50 lakh as bill without providing any generator to the Cox’s Bazar Airport.
On January 13, the accused sought anticipatory bail to the High Court.
