Sangsad Bhaban, Oct 22 (UNB)- The Housing and Building Research Institute Bill 2018 was passed in Parliament on Monday with the aim of ensuring planned development with a focus on making housing available for all.
The move to enact the new law came as the Housing and Building Research Institute was established with an ordinance promulgated during the military regime in 1977.
Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain moved the Bill and it was passed by voice vote.
The head office of the Institute shall be located in Dhaka. Its branches can be established in any part of the country taking prior permission from the government.
The Council to run the Institute shall consist of 22 members including the Minister in charge of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works as its Chairman.
The council will sit at least twice a year.
There shall be an 8 member Executive Committee including the director general, who will be its chairman.
