Sudipta Shahin, chief security officer of the university, filed the case, with Ashulia Police Station on Friday night.
Confirming the news, JU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam said the case was filed in the interest of the university.
“This is tantamount to murder attempt as they carried out the attack in a planned way,” she added.
Meanwhile, the protesting students and teachers feared that the case would be used as a tool to suppress their anti-corruption protest.
They, in a press conference on Saturday afternoon on the campus, said the VC is intimidating the protesting teachers with ‘intelligence agencies’ and the students through filing case.
Raihan Rain, a philosophy department professor and organiser of the protest, urged the authorities to disclose the names of the students who carried out the attack.
He also accused the authorities of staging a new drama to suppress the protest.
Besides, the protesting students alleged that the assistant proctor tortured two students, including a female one, during their protest programme. They lodged a complaint demanding his punishment.
A faction of students and teachers of JU under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar Against Corruption’ has been on a movement protesting unplanned mega-development project on the campus, endangerment of biodiversity and corruption by the vice-chancellor.
