Dhaka, July 8 (UNB) – Nari Samhati, the women wing of Ganosamhati Andolon, on Monday demanded justice for seven-year-old Samia Afrin Saima, who was murdered after rape in the city’s Wari area on Friday night.
The demand was made from a human chain formed by the leaders and activists of the organisation at Shahbagh intersection in the morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Taslima Akter, acting President of Nari Samhati, said rape and other forms of violence against women have been on the rise in the country for lack of ‘democracy and justice’ in the society.
She said female children are not safe even in their own houses. “Though the government has arrested the rapist but no step has been taken to change the rape culture in the society,” she said.
Taslima urged women to constitute a committee in every locality of the country to resist sexual harassment, rape and injustice.
Saima, daughter of Abdus Salam, was strangulated to death by a youth, Harun-or-Rashed, after being raped at a nine-storey building of Wari on Friday night.
