The expelled AL leader who is contesting the election as an independent candidate from Tangail-4 (Kalihati) constituency continued his demonstration in front of the office of the Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Tangail Shahidul Islam for the second consecutive day, braving cold and rain.
District Civil Surgeon Dr Sharif Hossain Khan said Latif’s physical condition was deteriorating due to the fast and for refraining from taking any medicine.
A four-member medical team from Tangail General Hospital examined Latif’s health condition, said Dr Narayan Chandra Saha.
Meanwhile, Latif also threatened to announce new programme if his demand is not met by today (Tuesday), said Nurul Alam Khasru, senior joint general secretary of Kalihati upazila unit Awami League.
On Sunday, Latif Siddiqui came under attack allegedly by the supporters of a local MP-backed union parishad chairman at Soratail in Kalihati upazila that left 20 people injured.
The AL men also burned Latif Siddiqui effigy and declared him persona non grata in the upazila.
