Advocate Shihab Uddin Khan, on behalf of the People for Animal Welfare Foundation, sent the legal notice to the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board and the Department of Forest on Thursday.
Several newspapers ran reports on the death and injuries of monkeys after they came in contact with the live electric wires passing through the forest, according to the notice.
Shihab Uddin said they will file a writ petition with the High Court if the authorities fail to take any step in this regard within 24 hour after getting the notice.
Founder of People for Animal Welfare Foundation Rakibul Haque Amil said monkeys are getting burned when they come in contact with coverless wires.
In the last few days, 8-20 monkeys were injured due to electrocution, he added.
On December 15 last year, new electric connections were inaugurated around the Santaspur forest.
