The deceased was identified as Dr Md Shah Alam, 58, son of late Azizul Haque of Kumira area.
Local people found the body lying beside the highway at 8 am on Friday and informed police.
Shamim Sheikh, inspector (investigation), Sitakunda Model Police Station, said police recovered the body and sent it to Chattogram Medical College hospital for autopsy.
Kumira Union Parishad Chairman said he knows Dr Shah Alam for long. He was the pediatric department head of Medina Hospital in Saudi Arabia.
After serving there for long 30 years he returned home recently and established a clinic named ‘Baby Care’ at Kumira bazar to serve the people of his locality, he said.
“He might have been murdered while going home on Thursday night, but it will be known after once the autopsy report is available,” he added.
Barrister Meer Helal, a relative of the victim, said Dr Shah Alam returned to the country only to serve his own people and established a modern child care clinic in his area.
