Dhaka, Jan 20 (UNB) – State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruk on Sunday said a newly-built pump house with the objective of preventing flooding and waterlogging in three key areas of the city- Mirpur, the Cantonment and Uttara Model Town –stands ready to be pressed into service before the monsoon arrives this year, helping mitigate public suffering in those areas.
The State Minister came up with the information on a visit to the newly-built pump house at Goranchatbari in city’s Mirpur area on Sunday.
Besides, deputy minister AKM Enamul Haque Shamim of Water Resources Ministry, said the 636-acre ponding area will help keep an area of 136 square kilometres nestled in the city’s east free of floods and waterlogging.
