At a press conference at Kushtia Press Club, family members demanded that exemplary punishment be meted out to the rapists and killers of Bilkis, 40, a nurse of Doctor’s Lab and Private Hospital in the district town and wife of fish trader Rabiul Islam of Amlapara in the town.
She left her house after receiving a phone call around 5pm on August 17 and never returned. Her family filed a general diary with Kushtia Model Police Station the following day.
After remaining missing for three days, her body was found tied inside a sack in a canal in Chapra union of Kumarkhali upazila on August 20.
Police arrested Jashim, an employee of Doctors’ Lab and Private Hospital, over the murder and he has already confessed to his crime.
Police claimed that Jashim alone was involved in the murder and dumping of the body.
However, Bilkis’ relatives alleged that hospital owner Yearul, employee Ujjal, Jashim’s friend Quader were involved in the murder after gang-rape. They also used to harass Bilkis.
Victim’s mother Morjina Begum, husband Rabiul Islam, adopted daughter Kuasah Yasmin and cousin Parvez Hossain, also the complainant of the case filed over the murder, were present at the press conference.
