All the incidents took place on Tuesday night.
In Dhaka, police arrested a 12-year-old boy from Duttapara of Savar upazila as he reportedly raped a five-year-old girl on October 16.
Asgar Ali, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, said the girl was playing with her friends at an open yard near her house at Duttapara in the afternoon.
The boy picked the minor girl up and took her to the second floor of an under-construction building and ‘raped’ her there, he said.
He also threatened the girl not to disclose the matter to anyone, Asgar said.
Her parents took her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) the following day as she was bleeding. After test, doctors confirmed that the little girl was raped, the OC added.
Police arrested the boy after victim’s family filed a case in this connection on Tuesday night, he said.
In Sunamganj, a 15-year-old boy was arrested from Border Palli area of Tahirpur upazila for ‘raping’ a minor girl.
A case was filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Wednesday against the arrestee.
Quoting locals, officer-in-charge of Tahirpur Police Station Md Atiqur Rahman said the boy took the girl to a jute field around 7:30pm on Tuesday and raped her.
The victim was bleeding when she returned home. Her family members took her to a local doctor who recommended shifting her to Sadar Hospital for better treatment.
She was later sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Police arrested the rape suspect from his house around 9pm.
A total of 826 children were raped and abused between January 1 and July 20 last, according to a report of Child Rights Advocacy Coalition (CRAC) published in July.
During the period, 471 children, including 15 boys, were raped and 390 cases were filed, the report said.
In Nilphamari, a 45-year-old widow reportedly committed suicide at Char village in Dimla upazila, a day after she was raped by a union parishad member.
The deceased was identified as Jahanara Begum, 45, mother of five children of the village.
Locals said Saiful Islam, member from ward-9 of Jhunagachh Chaponi union parishad, and son of Chatunama village in the upazila, went to Jahanara’s house on Monday night in the name of providing her a card under the widow allowance programme when she was alone there.
Taking the advantage, Saiful violated her.
Hearing victims’ screams, locals rushed in and caught the alleged rapist.
However, some local influential locals released Saiful.
When the victim was going to the local police station on Tuesday for filing a case in this regard, Saiful’s accomplices obstructed and threatened her with dire consequences.
Devastated, Jahanraa returned home and hanged herself in her room at night.
As the news of her death spread around the influential men asked her family not to inform police about it but locals and victim’s sister called 999 and informed police.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Mustafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dimla Police Station.
The accused UP member went into hiding after the incident, he said.
