Newly-appointed Vietnam Ambassador to Bangladesh Pham Viet Chien on Sunday said there is scope to further intensify the cooperation between Bangladesh and Vietnam.
“We’ve a very good relation. There’s also cooperation in many sectors. Still there’s scope to further enhance this cooperation,” he said during a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office in the evening.
PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
The ambassador highly praised Bangladesh’s progress and high economic growth achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “I’m happy to see very big success of Bangladesh,” he said.
Noting that a very good friendly relation prevails between Vietnam and Bangladesh, he said he is committed to carrying forward this relation. “We’re like brothers. I’ve promised to my government that I’ll make utmost efforts to carry forward this relation,” he was quoted as saying by the PM’s press secretary.
The Vietnam President and its Prime Minister invited Sheikh Hasina to visit Vietnam, he told Sheikh Hasina.
Pham Viet Chien said there is similarity between the development visions of Bangladesh and Vietnam.
He said he was impressed by visiting the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The Prime Minister congratulated the new ambassador on his appointment in Dhaka and assured him of all-out support in discharging his responsibilities in Bangladesh.
She said both Bangladesh and Vietnam share the common history of struggle for independence as both the countries made supreme sacrifices for liberation.
Appreciating the development of Vietnam, Sheikh Hasina stressed the need for enhancing connectivity between the two countries.
She also put emphasis on increasing connectivity among the countries in South and South East Asia as this region could be a big market.
Mentioning that Bangladesh is going to celebrate the ‘Mujib Borsho’ (Mujib Year) from 2020 and the golden jubilee of its independence in 2021, the Prime Minister said it invited the President and the Prime Minister of Vietnam to visit the country at their convenient time during this period.
She said the government has been working hard for the development of Bangladesh. The GDP growth reached 8.15 percent, while the poverty rate came down to 20 percent, she added.
PM’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus was present at the meeting.
