Having failed to press home their demand several times in the past, the locals protested by planting saplings on the muddy path they are forced to ply on Thursday.
Locals said Ichapura is an important road which has been subjected to negligence by the local administration for a long time.
Every day hundreds of people suffer greatly while walking along the road which becomes more impossible to cross during the monsoon season, locals alleged.
Selim Khan, a local of Paikpara said no public transport provider wants to ply the muddy road or charge exorbitant extra fare to cross the Ichapura road.
Earlier, local Union Parishad went ahead with the paving work but gave it up after just one kilometre as locals raised questions on the quality of the construction work, he said.
