“The social media has both good and bad sides. We saw its negative side in Ramu, Nasirnagar and various other places of the country. Recently, we witnessed it in Bhola. Community police must work to check rumours after verifying information,” he said.
The minister was addressing a programme at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium of Rajarbagh in the city to celebrate the Community Policing Day-2019.
He said they are facing some challenges every day in Bangladesh. “With your (Community police) help, Bangladesh police are tackling all the challenges very efficiently.”
Asaduzzaman said community police members will have to work to ensure that people are not misled by falsehood, rumours or misinformation.
Praising the activities of Bangladesh police, he said all of its members are working very efficiently. “That’s why we’ve been able to control terrorism and militancy in the country. “We can now say police are working for the people of the country being imbued with patriotism.”
The minister stressed that police work with the local people to ensure sustainable security. “Bangladesh is moving ahead rapidly. Sustainable development requires sustainable security. Bangladesh is being built as a peaceful country as people are involved in community policing,” he added.
Among others, Additional IGP (A&O) of the Police Headquarters Dr Md Mainur Rahman Chowdhury, DMP's Additional Commissioner (Crime and Ops) Krishnapad Roy, President of Shahjahanpur thana Community Police Golam Ashraf Talukder and prominent cultural personality and president of Bangladesh Betar and Television Artist Community Enamul Haque spoke at the programme chaired by DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam.
Awards were distributed among the best community police members, best CPOs from police members and beat policing officers for their outstanding contributions.
Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out from the DMP Headquarters which ended at Rajarbagh. MP from Dhaka-4 Sayed Abu Hossain was present at the rally.
The DMP Commissioner, senior DMP officials, prominent and cultural personalities, students of different schools and colleges took part in the rally.
