She made the call while addressing as the chief guest a workshop titled 'Changing Population Dynamics and its Management' at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the city.
The workshop was arranged under 'Strengthening Parliament’s Capacity in Population and Development Issues (SPCPD) Project,' which is being implemented jointly by Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat and UNFP.
The Speaker put emphasis on attracting youths to technical education alongside general one to involve them in the development journey of the country.
Noting that some 50 percent of the country's population is women, she said they should be given importance equally for the development of the nation.
Dr Chaudhury stressed the need for taking massive public awareness programmes for different critical areas to prevent child marriage and violence against women.
In this context, she urged the officials of SPCPD to arrange discussions with guardians, students and teachers of school and colleges to increase awareness over the social menaces at the marginalised level.
The Speaker urged the MPs to take necessary measures to resist child marriage, develop the young generation and improve maternity health in their respective constituencies.
At the beginning of the function, a one-minute silence was observed to pay tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage and the victims of the August 21 grenade attack.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Women and Children Affairs Ministry Meher Afroze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology Ministry AFM Ruhal Haque, Aroma Dutta, MP, and member (Senior Secretary) of the Planning Commission Dr Shamsul Haque spoke at the event moderated by Parliament Secretariat Senior Secretary Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan.
Dhaka University Professor Dr Mohammad Moinul Islam presented the keynote paper, while SPCPD Project Director MA Kamal made the welcome speech, said a Parliament Secretariat handout.
