Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin on Saturday said the government is engaged in creating forest on 25 percent area of the country as it is needed to check climate change.
The Minister said this at the inaugural session of a seminar titled “What should be done to maintain balance of environment in climate change”, organized by Home Media and LTV at CIRDAP auditorium in the capital.
“Work for creating green belt in the coastal region is going on at a fast speed. Besides, decision has been taken on principle to construct buildings in less space without destroying agricultural land in huge quantity,” he said.
The Minister said the government has also taken steps for ensuring navigability of the rivers by dredging for ensuring balance of environment and to check river erosion.
Presided over by PKSF President and eminent economist Dr Quazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmed, the seminar was addressed among others by Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen.
