Students of the Theatre and Performance Studies department of Dhaka University (DU) brought out a torch procession on the campus on Tuesday evening protesting the rape of a fellow.
The procession began from Raju Memorial Sculpture around 7:30 pm and it ended at the starting point after parading different roads on the campus.
Meanwhile, Jouno Nipironbirodhi Shikkharthi Jote announced a mass ‘foot march’ from the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of DU to Kurmitola for January 11, demanding capital punishment of the culprit who raped one of their fellows.
They will start their programme at 3pm, announced Shibli Hasan, convener of the alliance, at Shahbagh on Tuesday.
The alliance organised a sit-in programme at Shahbagh in the afternoon protesting the rape incident.
People from all walks of life took part in the protest programme.
The second-year DU student was raped in the city’s Kurmitola area on Sunday night.
The victim is now undergoing treatment at the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OSCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Victim's friends said she was picked up by an unidentified man after she got down from a university bus around 7pm and was made unconscious.
Later, the miscreant took her to a nearby place and raped her.
The victim regained her senses around 10pm and contacted her classmates.
