Munshiganj, Dec 14 (UNB) - Hundreds of passengers, including children and women, went through immense sufferings in the long queue of vehicles at Shimulia ferry Ghat here since Friday morning.
Over 500 vehicles, mostly buses, heading towards the terminal, were seen stuck in long tailbacks till filing of this report at 00:30 am Saturday as huge number of city dwellers were going home on the 3-day holiday.
A total of 15 ferries including two Ro-Ro ferries were plying non-stop since morning, but could not normalize the traffic congestion, said Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Assistant General Manager Barkat Ullah.
“Due to the three-day holiday, the pressure of the southern people increased on the route,” he said.
The authorities were trying to normalized the situation, said Sub-inspector Arman Hossain of Mawa Naval Police Outpost.
The pressure has become to rise since Thursday night, he added.
