The condemned convicts are Md Babul Hawaladar alias Kala Babul, 38, son of late Abdul Quader, and Emdad Hossain, 37, son of Sadek Hossain of Bastohara Colony. They were also fined Tk 1 lakh each.
Asha Mia, 22, Md Jahangir Ali, 24, Jahidul Islam, 40, and Nazrul Islam, 35, were acquitted as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
According to the prosecution, Afsana Mimi, 14, daughter of Md Imam Hossain of the Bastohara Colony, went to buy some puffed rice from a nearby shop around 7pm on November 15, 2009 but did not come back home.
Imam filed a general diary (GD) with Khalishpur Police Station on the same night.
Police recovered Mimi’s body from a pond of the colony on November 16.
Her father filed a murder case with the police station against 17 unknown people. He, however, alleged that Kala Babul, Quader and Emdad used to harass her daughter.
On March 23, 2010, police pressed charges against six people.
After examining the records and 13 witnesses, Judge of Khulna Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 Mohammad Mohiduzzaman handed down the verdict.
