The programme was arranged by the United News of Bangladesh (UNB) with support from US-Bangla Airlines, OBhai and TVS at the Cosmos Center in the city’s Malibagh.
Noted cricket commentator Shamim Ashraf Chowdhury in his speech as chief guest said such arrangement should take place frequently.
“Many organisations held similar competitions on World Cup but I really appreciate this initiative,” he said.
He also drew comparison between the form of quiz shows from past and modern times.
“I would like to request UNB to make it a continuous thing,” he added.
Shamim Chowdhury highlighted that the future competitions can be held on different topics other than cricket.
Mahfuzur Rahman, editor of UNB, congratulated the winners and thanked the sponsors of the event.
Fahmi Faruque, Assistant Manager (International Marketing and Sales) of US-Bangla Airlines, said he wishes to collaborate with UNB in future events.
“I’m sure it (the competition) has been a great success,” he said.
AKM Fazli Elahi, Deputy General Manager of Obhai Solutions, extended congratulations to the winners and additionally awarded discount coupon for Obhai service to them.
Fariha Fatima Kabir, Management Trainee of Obhai, also spoke at the event.
Top three prize winners were Yeasmin Ratna, Rini Raziun Tisha and Reazun Hossain who achieved first, second and third spot respectively at UNB-US Bangla Animated Gif contest. They were handed out air tickets to holiday spots.
The Facebook-based contest took place throughout the ICC World Cup 2019 and the 49 winners, 1 for each matchday, were selected through lottery in view of ties.
