Dhaka, Jan 21 (UNB) – A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) Division on Monday seeking its directives to bring journalists and lawyers under the pension scheme.
It was prayed in the writ to issue a rule seeking explanation from the authorities concerned as to why the inaction to allocate necessary fund for bringing journalists and lawyers under the pension facilities should not be declared illegal.
Lawyer M Mozammel Haque filed the writ petition which might come up for hearing at the bench of Justice FRM Najmul Hasan and Justice KM Kamrul Quader, said petitioner’s lawyer Md Sahabuddin Khan.
According to the petition, lawyers are playing an important role as a constitutional organ out of the state’s three organs while journalists are performing their responsibilities which benefit all.
However, the writ says, although the 3rd and 4th class government employees get Tk 30-Tk 40 lakh and lifetime premium bonus after their retirement, lawyers and journalists have no possibility to get anything once they retire.
