Dhaka, Dec 12 (UNB) - Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Siddiqur Rahman on Wednesday asked the RMG workers not to get instigated by any vested quarter ahead of the national election.
He came up with the call at a press briefing at the BGMEA office at night.
The BGMEA chief also urged law enforcers to arrest those who were provoking the garment workers to wage demonstrations over their wages.
He urged the workers of 50 RMG factories in Gazipur and Ashulia who have been demonstrating for the last several days to return to work ending their work abstention.
"The gazette on the new wage structure for garment workers was issued on November 29 and it’ll be implemented from December while the workers will get their salary as per the new structure from January 7 to 10 in 2019,” Siddiqur said.
He also sought support from the workers, saying, “Without workers’ support, the garment industry will be ruined.”
