Dhaka, Apr 15 (UNB) - BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Monday alleged that the Awami League is trying to hush up the Nusrat-murder case as its leaders are involved in it.
“Awami League men are behind the murder of Nusrat Jahan Rafi. Those arrested already have admitted that the Upazila Awami president was involved in it. Meanwhile, the local Awami League general secretary has been expelled from the party, but not arrested,” he said.
Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader also said the reluctance to arrest local Awami League leaders involved in such a sensational case has stunned the entire nation.
“Ministers are now making various remarks to divert the incident to a different direction and hush it up. They dare show such an audacity to hide the incident as the offenders belong to Awami League,” he observed.
Adarsha Nagorik Andolan, a pro-BNP platform, arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club, marking its founding anniversary.
Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa in Sonagazi upazila of Feni, was set afire on April 6 for refusing to withdraw a case filed against her madrasa principal Sirajuddoula for sexually harassing her last month.
After fighting for life for five days, the madrasa girl died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on April 10.
Mosharraf criticised local Awami League leaders and activists for what he said staging demonstrations in favour of ‘rapist’ Sirajuddoula and seeking his release when Rafi was fighting for life at the DMCH.
He alleged that the entire society have got badly polluted with the degradation of people’s values as the ruling party used the state machinery and its party leaders and activists to indulge in serious misdeeds during the national election.
The BNP leader also accused the government of turning the country into a failed state by destroying all the democratic institutions and snatching people’s all the rights, including freedom of expression.
