This was the 2nd consecutive abandoned matches in the ICC World Cup after South Africa-West Indies match was abandoned for the same reason on Monday (June 10) at Southampton.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka also shared one point each as their encounter was also washed out due
to rain at Bristol on June 7.
Earlier, two each matches were abandoned in 1992 World Cup held in Australia & New Zealand and in 2003 World Cup held in South Africa, Kenya and Zimbabwe.
In 1992 World Cup, India-Sri Lanka, and England-Pakistan matches were abandoned due to rain while in 2003 World Cup, Bangladesh-West Indies and Pakistan-Zimbabwe matches were also washed out due to the same reason.
Besides, one match each was also abandoned in four other ICC Cricket World Cups.
Kenya-Zimbabwe match was abandoned in 1996 World Cup, New Zealand-Zimbabwe match in 1999 World Cup and Australia-Sri Lanka match in 2011 World Cup and Bangladesh-Australia match in 2015 World Cup.
