Sheikh Jamal set a big challenge scoring 317 runs in the match. However, Soumya and Jahurl Islam made a record-breaking 312 in the first wicket stand and subsequently Abahani won the match by a big margin of nine wickets. Jahurul hit 100 and Soumya remained unbeaten on 208 off 153 balls.
“I was a bit of nervous after completing 190 runs. I was thinking of not missing the chance. I wanted to hit the double ton at any cost. Omi Bhai (Jahurul) was also closed to his century. So, we’re trying to score slowly,” Soumay told reporters after the day’s match.
“It’s always tough to chase a target above 300 runs. In the previous match, we saw Rupganj tried to hurry up but failed and lost the game. So, in this match, our plan was to go slow. If we would score 40 in 10 overs without losing a wicket, that would be good because it was a wicket that is friendly to the batsmen,” the left-handed batsman further said.
Soumya started the league with some poor scores. He was seen to have secured the good starts, but he failed while capitalising on those. But this time, he managed to score the first-ever double ton in List-A cricket in Bangladesh.
“It was frustrating to get dismissed after scoring 30s and 40s. But now, I have scored two centuries in consecutive two matches. In the matches at the start of the league, I batted with plans which were set before the match. But now, I planned the game while batting in the middle. In the end, it helped me a lot,” the southpaw said.
