Sohel aggregated a four-under-par 140, carding a brilliant four-under 68 before the day’s play was postponed due to fading light.
Sohel, who claimed the PGM Miri Championship title for his maiden Asian Development Tour (ADT) in early September in Malaysia, shared his spot with four other golfers after the second round, moving up from joint 18th spot after an even-par 72 opening on Thursday.
Young local talent Shahriffuddin Ariffin took the halfway clubhouse lead by one shot - carding a six-under-par 66 for a total of seven-under-par 137 - in the approximate US$58,000 ADT event.
A total of 24 players will resume their second rounds at 7.30am [Malaysia time] on Saturday with the third round scheduled to start no earlier than 9.30am as the climate forced call of the second day’s play.
Friday’s play was suspended first at 10am due to lightning threats before resuming at 12.20pm.It was later abandoned at 6.56pm due to fading light.
