COVID-19: Testing finally set to commence in Khulna, Sylhet
Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) and Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) will start testing for the COVID-19 infection using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machines from Tuesday in their respective divisions.
KMCH to start COVID-19 test from April 11
Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) is set to start test to detect coronavirus or COVID-19 infection using the Polymerase Chain Reaction(PCR) machine on April 11.
The test kits have already reached the hospital, said Dr Shahnaz Parvin, head of Microbiology department at KMCH.
She said, “We can start testing of coronavirus using PCR machine next Saturday. This week we will receive the required training on how to use the machine.”
According to KMCH, a PCR machine provided by the health department has been set up at the microbiology department on third floor of the hospital.
Anyone with symptoms of coronavirus can come to the hospital for the test free of cost.
Later, only coronavirus positive patients will be admitted to the isolation ward of Khulna Diabetic Hospital that was prepared for coronavirus patients.

KMCH interns go on work abstain demanding PPE
Interns at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) went on a work abstain on Sunday afternoon demanding that they be provided with necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
A total of 175 interns stopped working around 2:30pm, said Dr Hasan Shahriar, general secretary of KMCH Interns Parishad.
He said they went on the strike after two of them showed cold-related symptoms after giving treatment to patients, creating panic among them.
Shahriar also said there was no arrangement of PPE for them till Sunday although they sought those to the hospital authorities.
Besides, it is not possible to buy the equipment personally due to the crisis in the market, he said.
They demanded immediate arrangement for the equipment for them.
