Driver, helper killed in Natore road accident
A pickup van driver and his assistant were killed in Lalpur upazila of Natore early Tuesday as a pickup van collided with a bus on Natore-Pabna highway.
The deceased were identified as driver Apon Mia, and his assistant Moazzem, both from Tangail district, said sub-inspector Firoz Ahsan, in-charge of Banpara highway police station.

The accident occurred around 2 am when the Tangail-bound pickup van collided with the Pabna- bound bus, leaving Apon and Moazzem severely injured.
They were taken to Boraigram Health Complex where doctors announced them dead in the morning, said the SI.

Man killed in Kurigram road accident
One person was killed and another injured when a speeding truck knocked them down in the Zia Bazar area of Kurigram's Sadar upazila early on Saturday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Alam Mia, who worked as a helper of a lorry driver. The lorry driver has been hospitalised.
The accident occurred around 5am when the Nageshwar-bound truck from Chilmari hit Alam and his boss as they got off their lorry, leaving Alam dead on the spot, said Nazmul Islam, duty officer of Sadar Police Station.

"We have seized the killer truck but its driver managed to flee. Efforts are on to nab him," the officer said.
Two killed, 11 injured in Khulna road accident
Two persons were killed and at least 11 others injured when a speeding bus hit a bike before plunging into a roadside ditch in Khulna on Wednesday morning, police said.
The deceased were identified as biker Ali Osman of Khaliskhali village in Satkhira, and Abdul Khaleq of Golna village in Khulna. Ali Osman worked as a medical representative while Abul Khaleq was a logging worker.
The accident occurred around 8.30am in the Gutudia area of Dumuria upazila.

"The Satkhira-bound bus travelling at cruise speed crashed into the bike coming from the opposite direction and plunged into a roadside ditch after its driver lost control of the vehicle," said Mohammad Shafiq, sub-inspector at Dumuria Police Station.
The crash left the biker and a bus passenger dead on the spot. "Of the injured, three are being treated at the upazila health complex while eight were shifted to Khulna Medical College and Hospital," he said.
2 die as tractor plunges into roadside ditch in Manikganj
Two people died and another three were injured on Sunday as a tractor lost control and fell into a roadside ditch at Hatipara Bazar area in Manikganj Sadar upazila.
The deceased were identified as Aynal,35, and Miraz,32, from Basail upazila in Tangail, said Abdur Rauf, Officer-in-charge of Manikganj sadar police station.

The accident occurred around 5:30 pm on Bartek-Beribadh regional road near Gonger Chawk as the tractor carrying electric poles fell into the ditch leaving two of the driver’s assistants dead on the spot.
The injured are currently admitted at Manikganj district hospital, said OC Abdur Rauf.
7 soldiers killed in India road accident
As many as seven Indian Army personnel were killed and 19 others injured when a vehicle carrying them to a forward location near the country's border with China veered off a mountainous road and rolled down a deep gorge in the federal territory of Ladakh on Friday, officials said.

"A party of 26 soldiers was moving from the Transit Camp in Partapur to a forward location in Sub Sector Hanif. ... around 25 km from Thoise, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell in Shyok river (to a depth of approx 50-60 ft)," an Indian Army spokesperson told the media.
While seven bodies were recovered from the gorge after a rescue operation, the 19 injured have been admitted to a field hospital in Partapur, a police officer told the local media. "The rescue operation began soon after news of the accident reached the nearest Army camp."

Road accidents claim 14 lives in 4 divisions
At least 14 people were killed, and 12 were injured in six road accidents in Barishal, Chattogram, Rajshahi, and Khulna divisions Thursday, according to police.
In Barishal city, a motorcyclist and a pillion rider were killed in a crash with a light pole at night.
Twenty-five-year-old Sudipta Saha died on the spot; Antu Saha succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to Sher-e-bangla Medical College Hospital, Lokman Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, said.
In Sirajganj, five workers were killed and six others injured when a truck crashed into a mini passenger vehicle, locally known as Leguna, on the busy Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway in the early hours of the day.
The deceased Mukul Hossain, 35, Monir Hossain, 34, Makbul Hossain, 35, Abdul Halim, 45, and Haidar Ali, 40, were occupants of the mini passenger vehicle, Lutfur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police, said.
In Bandarban, three people were killed and six others injured as a microbus with nine tourists aboard fell into a roadside ditch in Thanchi.
The deceased were identified as Md Monjurul Islam, 40, of Mymensingh, Md jaynal Abedin, 32, of Faridpur, and Md Hamidul Islam, 41, of Lalbagh, Dhaka, Rakib, sub-inspector of Thanchi Tourist Police, said.
In Khulna city, a 65-year-old-man was killed when a speeding truck hit him at Zero Point.
The deceased Bachchu, a retired banker, was from Masjid Lane, Darogapara of the city, Md Emdadul Haque, officer-in-charge of Harintana Police Station, said.
In Chattogram, three people were killed in road accidents in Anwara, Sitakunda, and Karnaphuli upazilas.
The deceased were identified as Dipankar Nath, 11, of Patiya, and Abdul Hamid, 28, of Karnaphuli, Iftekhar Hossain Munna, 28, of Sitakunda.
In Anwara, a speeding pickup van hit Dipankar while he was crossing the road, killing him on the spot, SM Didarul Islam Shikdar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Anwara Police Station, said.
In Karnaphuli, biker Abdul Hamid sustained serious injuries when his two-wheeled vehicle crashed into a truck in Charlakkhya.
Later, he succumbed to his injuries at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), Sadikur Rahman, inspector of CMCH Police Outpost, said.
In Sitakunda, biker Munna was killed after being hit by a covered van in Shitolpur, Nazmul Haque, officer-in-charge of Baro Aulia Highway Police, said.
Road accidents in Bangladesh continue to claim hundreds of lives every year.
As many as 543 people, including 81 children, were killed and 612 others injured in 427 road accidents in April, the Road Safety Foundation said in its latest report released on May 7.
The non-government organisation said 206 lives were lost in 189 motorcycle accidents, which is 37.93 percent of the total deaths.

2 killed in Chattogram road crashes
Two people, including a child, were killed in separate road accidents in Anwara and Karnaphuli upazilas of Chattogram on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Dipankar Nath, 11, of Patia upazila and Abdul Hamid , 28, of Karnaphuli upazila.

In Anwara upazila, a speeding pickup van rammed Dipankar while he was crossing the road at Kalabibir Dighi on PAB Road around 11 am, leaving him dead on spot.
The body was sent to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) morgue, said SM Didarul Islam Shikdar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Anwara police station.
Police also detained the pickup van driver, said the OC.
In Karnaphuli upazila, biker Abdul Hamid sustained serious injuries when his motorbike crashed into a truck in Charlakkhya area of the upazila.

Later, locals rushed him to CMCH where doctors declared him dead, said Sadikur Rahman, superintendent of CMCH police outpost.
The body was kept at the hospital morgue, he added.
3 killed as microbus plunges into Bandarban ditch
At least three people were killed and six others injured as a microbus carrying tourists fell into a ditch beside Bandarban-Thanchi road on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Md Monjurul Islam,40 of Mymensingh, Md jaynal Abedin, 32, of Faridpur, and Md Hamidul Islam, 41, of Lalbagh area in Dhaka. All worked as security staffers of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology(Buet).
The accident occurred around 10:30 am near Jibannagar area as the vehicle carrying nine tourists fell into the roadside ditch, leaving Monjurul dead on the spot, said Rakib, Sub-Inspector of Thanchi tourist police.
Jaynal and Hamidul died on the way to a hospital, he said.

The injured were identified as Wahiduzzaman,40, of Magura, , Md Rajib Mia,30, of Manikganj, Md Abdul Malek,52, of Gaibandha, Md Milan ,30, Md Faysal,35, and Md Faruq , 40, of Dhaka.
They were all senior security guard members of State and Legal Office in Dhaka and were appointed at Security Division of BUET, said SI Rakib.

9 killed as cab falls into gorge in Kashmir
As many as nine people were killed when their cab veered off a mountainous road and rolled down a deep gorge in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said on Thursday.
The accident occurred at Zojila Pass on the busy Srinagar-Leh National Highway in the federal government-controlled territory. The pass is 3,400 metres above the sea level.
"The cab was travelling to Kashmir's summer capital Srinagar with the victims -- eight passengers and the driver -- when the tragedy occurred late on Wednesday night," a police officer told the local media.

Two killed in Bagerhat road crash
Two persons were killed and another was injured in a head-on collision between a tractor trolley and a van on the Bagerhat-Pirojpur Highway near Shrimp Research Center in Pirojpur on Wednesday morning, officials said.
One of the deceased was identified as Reshmi Begum, wife of Babul Fakir of Sundarghona village of Sadar upazila. All the victims were occupants of the van.

Md Golam Sarwar, assistant director of Bagerhat Fire Service and Civil Defense, said the accident occurred around 9.30am when the brick-laden tractor trolley crashed into the van, leaving the woman dead on the spot and two others injured.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared one of them dead.

The van puller was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment, the officer said.
The bodies have been kept in the hospital morgue for post-mortem, he added.
