Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 9 more cases
Bangladesh reported nine more Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
With the new number, the country's total caseload rose to 2,037,386, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
However, the official death toll from the disease remained unchanged at 29,441 as no new fatalities were reported.

The daily case test positivity rose to 0.42 percent from Monday's 0.38 percent as 2,164 samples were tested.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.45 percent while the recovery rate rose to 97.67 percent.
Bangladesh reported its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 in 2021 and daily fatalities of 264 on August 5 of the same year.
HC summons DG of DGHS for not recruiting doctors to fill vacant posts in prisons
The High Court on Tuesday summoned the director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) for not complying with its directive over recruitment of 48 doctors to the vacant posts in the prisons of the country.
The court asked him to appear before it on January 24 for an explanation.
The HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order following a writ petition filed by advocate JR Khan Robin.

JR Khan Robin said, on June 23, 2019, the court issued a rue asking the authorities concerned to submit a list on the capacity of prisons, the number of prisoners and doctors and the vacancies of doctors in all prisons across the country.
The jail authorities reported to the court in November 2019 that there were only 10 doctors against 141 posts in 68 prisons. After seeing the report, the High Court ordered recruitment of doctors in the prisons.
On September 21, 2021, it was reported to the court that 112 doctors were appointed in 68 prisons in the country against a total of 141 vacant posts.
Then the HC ordered the speedy appointment of doctors in the remaining vacant posts. But health authorities did not take any initiative in this regard.
Following an appeal, the court upheld the previous order on November 15 last year and ordered the Inspector General of Prisons and the Secretary to the Security Services Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs to submit a report on it.
Later, the Inspector General of Prisons submitted a report on December 13.
According to the report, 68 prisons and a prison hospital in the country have a total number of 141 posts of doctors at various levels. It was reported that that 93 doctors were appointed against 141 posts.
Later, the court ordered the recruitment of doctors to the remaining 38 vacant posts by January 7.
Bangladesh reports one more dengue death, 10 new cases
One more person died from dengue in the 24 hours to Friday morning.
With the new number, the official death toll from dengue rose to two this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Also, 10 people were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease. Of the new patients, four were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and six outside it.
One hundred and twenty-seven dengue patients, including 53 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
The DGHS has recorded 370 dengue cases and 241 recoveries so far this year.

Twenty-one more people were hospitalised with dengue in the 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
Of the new patients, 12 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and nine outside it, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A total of 168 dengue patients, including 55 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
So far, DGHS recorded 342 dengue cases and 173 recoveries this year with a death reported on Monday.

Thirty-two more people were hospitalised with dengue in the 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
Of the new patients, 15 were admitted to the hospitals in Dhaka and 17 outside it, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A total of 165 dengue patients, including 52 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country
So far, DGHS recorded 321 dengue cases and 155 recoveries this year with a death reported on Monday.

The daily case test positivity dropped to 0.56 per cent from Monday's 0.72 per cent as 3,763 samples were tested during the period.
The mortality and recovery rates remained unchanged at 1.45 percent and 97.62 per cent, respectively, it added.

In December last year, the country reported seven Covid-linked deaths and 540 cases.

However, no fatalities were reported during this period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Also, the DGHS did not report any dengue death in the first five days of this year.

So far, DGHS recorded 176 dengue cases and 36 recoveries this year with zero death.

However, the official death toll from the disease remained unchanged at 29,440 as no new fatalities were reported.
The daily case test positivity fell to 0.74 per cent from Monday's 0.84 per cent as 4,189 samples were tested during the period.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.45 percent while recovery rate rose to 97.59 per cent, it added.
