Global Covid-19 cases approaches 152 million
The confirmed case of coronavirus is approaching 152 million across the globe with 3.18 million fatalities on Sunday, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
The total case count reached 151,774,770 while the death toll from the virus climbed to 3,188, 331 as of Sunday morning.
The US which remains the world’s worst hit country in number of cases and deaths has recorded 32,389,652 cases and 576,719 deaths respectively.
Brazil’s national death toll climbed to 406,437 and its nationwide tally reached 14,725,975 as of Sunday morning, according to data compiled by JHU.
April has been the month with the most deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic in the Latin American nation.
Since the beginning of this year, Brazil has been facing a new wave of the virus, which has resulted in the collapse of a large part of its healthcare system.
Amid the monstrous spike in COVID-19 infections, India has logged 19,164, 969 cases with 211,853 fatalities.
The authorities concerned in India opened vaccinations to all adults Saturday, launching a huge inoculation effort that was sure to tax the limits of the federal government, the country’s vaccine factories and the patience of its 1.4 billion people.

The country’s ambitious effort was also partly overshadowed Saturday by a fire in a COVID-19 ward in western India that killed 18 patients, and the death of 12 COVID-19 patients at a hospital in New Delhi after the facility ran out of oxygen for 80 minutes, reports AP.
Situation in Bangladesh
The death toll from Covid-19 hit 11,510 in Bangladesh on Saturday as the country logged 60 more fatalities in 24 hours until Saturday morning.
However, the country reported new cases of 1,452 during the 24-hour period ending at 8am, which was said to the lowest daily count in 48 days.
The overall infection tally reached 760,584 with the new cases and the positivity rate fell to 9.61% from Friday's 10.34%. But the death rate remained unchanged at 1.51%, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
On March 14, Bangladesh reported 1,159 cases in 24 hours. The country's infection rate came down below 10% on Thursday after over a month, as it reported a 7.68% infection rate on March 17 and it rose to 10.45% the following day. Since then, the infection rate began an upward march.
According to the DGHS, 684,671 infected people have recovered from the disease so far and 3,245 of them in the past 24 hours.

Bangladesh has so far carried out 548,4821 nationwide tests since reporting its first coronavirus cases on March 8 last year the first death on the 18th of that month.
The country recorded 52 coronavirus-related deaths on April 5, 78 on April 27, and 77 on April 28, showing a downtrend. It witnessed over 100 deaths during April 16-19 and on April 25.
Global Covid-19 cases top 148 million
The Covid-19 situation is worsening around the world with each passing the day, despite mass vaccinations. The overall number of corona cases has now topped 148 million.
As of Wednesday morning, the total case count and fatalities stand at 148,353,905 and 3,131,636, respectively, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has logged 32,175,049 cases and 573,378 deaths to date, as per the university data.
Besides, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention eased its guidelines Tuesday on the wearing of masks outdoors, saying fully vaccinated Americans don’t need to cover their faces anymore unless they are in a big crowd of strangers, reports AP. Those who are unvaccinated can go outside without masks in some situations.
Brazil's Covid-19 death toll on Tuesday reached 395,022 pushing the national count to 14,441,563, the country's health authorities said.
India has registered 17,636,307 Covid cases with 197,894 fatalities as of Wednesday morning, according to the country's health ministry.
Hospitalisations and deaths have reached record highs, overwhelming healthcare workers. Patients are suffocating because hospitals’ oxygen supplies have run out.

Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh reported 78 more coronavirus-related deaths and 3,031 new cases on Tuesday morning, showing a downtrend.
The country witnessed over 100 deaths daily from April 16 to 19 and on April 25 as the second wave of the virus hit Bangladesh.
The daily infection rate slipped to 12.51 percent on Tuesday from Monday’s 12.82 percent while the mortality rate remained static at 1.49 percent.

Brazil's Covid-19 death toll on Monday reached 391,936 after registering 1,139 more fatalities in 24 hours, the health ministry reported.
The ministry said that another 28,636 cases were registered, bringing the national count to 14,369,423.
Since the beginning of this year, the country has been facing a new wave of the virus, which has resulted in the partial collapse of its healthcare system.

On Monday, the country reported 2,812 more deaths, with roughly 117 Indians succumbing to the disease every hour, and experts say even those figures are probably an undercount. The new infections brought India’s tally to more than 17.3 million, behind only the United States, reports AP.

Bangladesh on Monday reported 97 more coronavirus-related deaths and 3,306 new cases as the country grapples with a second and deadlier wave of the virus.

Brazil registered 3,076 more Covid-19-related deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing its death toll to 389,492, the country's Ministry of Health reported on Saturday.
According to the ministry, another 71,137 new cases were registered, bringing the country's caseload to 14,308,215.
Brazil is currently ranked second in the world in the number of deaths from Covid-19, surpassed only by the United States, and third in the world in the number of cases, behind the United States and India.

On Thursday, Foreign Minister AK Momen assured people that there will be adequate doses of the vaccine.
So far, 5,778,686 people have received the first dose and 1,967,975 have got their second jab, according to official figures.

Brazil on Tuesday registered a record 4,195 deaths from Covid in a single day, taking the accumulated pandemic toll to 336,947, the Ministry of Health said.

Global Covid cases top 130 million
The world hit another grim Covid-19 milestone on Saturday, as the total caseload surpassed 130 million.
According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count reached 130,126,796 while the death toll from the deadly virus climbed to 2,836,682 on Saturday morning.
The US has so far logged 30,606,648 cases, with 554,069 fatalities.
The North American country has been sowing the world's highest number of cases and deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
In Brazil, a total of 12,910,082 people have so far been found infected with the virus. The death toll in the country stood at 328,206 as Saturday morning, as per the university data.
In March alone, as many as 66,868 people died of Covid-19 in the Latin America's largest and most populous country.

Mexico is the third worst-hit country in the world in terms of deaths, as it has recorded 203,664 deaths as of Saturday morning.
India’s total caseload and fatalities currently stand at 12,303,131 and 163,396, respectively, as per official figures.
Coronavirus cases were first reported in China in December 2019. To date, countries around the world have reported 130 million cases and 2.8 million deaths, according to Johns Hopkins data.
Several vaccines have been developed to fight the virus. Those developed by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Oxford-AstraZeneca are among them.

There is hardly any bed available at hospitals treating coronavirus patients. The government is increasing the number of beds and Covid-designated hospitals to deal with the situation.

Govt strengthens protective steps
The daily surge prompted the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to issue an 18-point directive on March 29 to prevent the transmission of the virus.
On the same day, the Health Ministry proposed strict measures like partial lockdowns for some places with higher Covid-19 transmission rates.
Other recommendations made by the ministry include closure of amusement centres and picnic spots, ban on religious gatherings, limiting wedding ceremonies, strengthening quarantine systems, limiting passengers in public transport, and limiting attendance in offices.
It also suggested strong enforcement of the ‘no mask, no service’ policy, increasing the number of mobile courts and slapping fines on health guideline violators.
Authorities in various districts have shut down amusement centres and are urging people to wear masks. But a large number of people are still reluctant to follow Covid protocols, putting themselves as well as others around them at risk.

Brazil has logged 321,515 Covid-19 deaths, with a daily average of more than 2,500 deaths in March, making it a global epicenter of the pandemic. Brazil reported a record daily Covid-19 death toll of 3,869 on Wednesday, its Health Ministry said.
In addition, Covid-19 cases in Brazil rose to 12,748,747 after 90,638 new cases were reported.

It also suggested strong enforcement of the ‘no mask no service’ policy, increasing numbers of mobile courts and slapping fines on health guideline violators.
Vaccination drive

The government rolled out a countrywide mass vaccination campaign on February 7 with doses received from the Serum Institute of India.
Bangladesh inked an agreement with Serum in December last year for 30 million doses to be supplied between January and June this year – 5 million each month.
