Weather forecast: Will it rain in Dhaka?
Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecasts varied weather patterns across the country, with rain or thundershowers expected in several divisions, including Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barishal, and Chattogram.
As per the latest bulletin from the BMD, “Rain or thundershowers are likely at a few places in the Khulna and Dhaka divisions, with occasional showers predicted in Rajshahi, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions.”
In other parts of Bangladesh, the weather is set to remain predominantly dry, albeit with partly cloudy skies.

The report also warns of moderate to thick fog formation over river basins, with lighter fog likely in other areas. This foggy condition, particularly dense near rivers, may temporarily disrupt inland river transport from late night until morning.
Temperature fluctuations are also on the horizon, with a slight increase in night temperatures and a minor decrease in daytime temperatures expected nationwide.
From Chuadanga, UNB’s correspondent reports that the district town has been experiencing light rainfall since Tuesday night. The local Chuadanga Weather Observatory Centre, under the supervision of Officer-in-Charge Jaminur Rahman, recorded 3 mm of rainfall by 6 am on Wednesday. Additionally, a slight rise in temperature was observed, with the mercury hitting 15.3 degrees Celsius early this morning.
The forecast suggests continued rainfall in Chuadanga and surrounding areas until Friday, indicating a wet end to the week for the residents.

Weather forecast for 72 hrs: What BMD is saying about rain in Dhaka, other places
Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecasted a dynamic weather pattern for the coming 72 hours, starting at 9 am today (January 18, 2024), impacting various regions of the country including Dhaka.
According to a recent BMD bulletin, “Rain or thundershowers are expected in several areas, with Khulna and Barishal divisions likely to experience scattered showers. Isolated rain or thundershowers may occur in Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Chattogram divisions. Meanwhile, other regions can expect mainly dry conditions with temporary partly cloudy skies.”
The bulletin also warns of moderate to thick fog affecting many areas from midnight to morning. A mild cold wave is currently sweeping through the Rangpur division, as well as the districts of Kishoreganj and Noagaon, with potential to persist.
Dinajpur recorded the country’s lowest temperature today at 8 degrees Celsius.

Transport sectors, including air navigation, inland river transport, and road communication, face potential disruptions due to foggy conditions.
Temperatures are expected to fall slightly in the north-northeastern regions, while remaining relatively stable in other parts of Bangladesh.
Furthermore, the BMD anticipates “cold day conditions” in certain areas, highlighting the need for residents to prepare for a range of weather scenarios.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind are likely to occur at many places over Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions; at a few places over Mymensingh and Khulna divisions; and at one or two places over Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions,” it said.

Meanwhile, a mild heatwave is sweeping over the districts of Dhaka, Tangail, Rajshahi, Sirajganj, Rangpur, Panchagarh, Kurigram, Moulvibazar, Jashore and Chuadanga, and it may abate in some places.
Daytime temperatures may remain nearly unchanged, and nighttime temperatures may fall slightly across the country.
The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 37.5 and 25.2 degrees Celsius in Saidpur and Kutubdia respectively.

The weather office recorded the highest 27mm rainfall in Noakhali’s Hatiya upazila.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind are likely to occur at most places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at many places in Rajshahi and Khulna divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country,” said a regular bulletin of the Met Office.

Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
The highest temperature was recorded at 35 degree Celsius in Pabna’s Ishwardi while the lowest temperature was recorded at 24 degree Celsius in Cox’s Bazar’s Kutubdia in the country.
The weather office recorded the highest 126mm rainfall in Kurigram’s Rajarhat upazila.

Heat wave may persist in five districts: BMD
The ongoing mild heat wave in Rajshahi, Pabna, Rangpur, Dinajpur & Nilphamari districts may last for more days, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
It forecast light to moderate rains in different parts of the country in 24 hours commencing 9am on Monday (July 24, 2023).

"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind are likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions, with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions in 24 hours," the Met Office said.

The highest, 22 mm, rainfall was recorded in Hatiya and Cumilla in 24 hours, till 6 am today.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions and it may fall slightly elsewhere over the country , the weather forecast added.

The country’s highest temperature was recorded at 36.9 degree Celsius on Sunday in Rajshahi.
