Brace for foggy weather: Met office
A light to thick blanket of fog is likely to envelop large parts of Bangladesh in the next 24 hours, starting this morning.
Moderate to thick fog may occur at places over the river basins and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere over the country during late night to morning, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said today.

The weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country, it added.
Night temperature may rise by (1-2 °C) and day temperature may rise slightly over the country.
The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 9.8 degree Celsius in Dinajpur in the last 24 hours till 6am Sunday.
The highest temperature was recorded at 30.1 degree Celsius in Teknaf.
Meanwhile, the depression over southwest Bay and adjoining area moved southwestwards at 6am today, as per the latest warning of the met office.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay and deep sea have been advised not to venture into the depression area, it added.

Moderate to thick fog may occur over the river basins and northern part of the country and light to moderate fog elsewhere over the country from midnight to morning, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said today.
The weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy skies over the country, it added. "Night and day temperatures may fall slightly over the country."

The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 8.4-degree Celsius in Badalgachhi of Rajshahi division in the last 24 hours till 6am Friday.
The highest temperature was recorded at 29.6-degree Celsius in Teknaf of Chattogram division.

Moderate to thick fog likely across country
Bangladesh is likely to be covered with moderate to thick fog in next 24 hours commencing from 9am on Monday, the weather office has predicted.
“Moderate to thick fog may occur over the country during midnight till morning,” according to the daily Met Office bulletin.

Besides, the weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country.
Night and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it added.
The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 12.2 degree Celsius in Cumilla of Chattogram division in last 24 hours till 6am today (Monday) while the highest temperature was 30.5 degree Celsius recorded in Srimangal of Sylhet division.

Meanwhile, the low pressure area over Southeast Bay and adjoining area now lies over central part of South Bay & adjoining area persists. Its associated trough extends up to North Bay. Ridge of Sub-continental high extends up to West Bengal and adjoining area, as per the bulletin.
Well-marked low over Bay likely to weaken: Met Office
The well-marked low over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining area is likely to weaken gradually, said the weather department on Wednesday.
Under its influence, deep convection is also taking place over North Bay and adjoining area, the Met office said in a special bulletin.

Besides, monsoon is strong over North Bay, it added.
Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal No 3.
"All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice," the department said.

They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea, it added.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rains or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy showers at places over the country, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
Maritime ports asked to alert vessels of possible squall
The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist at the mast local cautionary signal No 3 to alert vessels of a possible squall.
The weather office's advisory for cautionary signal No 3 -- which means a depression has formed and may affect the port later -- comes in the wake of the formation of a low pressure area over the East Central Bay and the adjoining North Bay.

It is likely to intensify further, said a special bulletin of the Met office this morning (September 8, 2022).
Under its influence, a deep convection is taking place over the North Bay and its adjoining areas. Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, the North Bay and the adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, it added.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to come closer to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice. They have been also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
Deep convection refers to the thermally driven turbulent mixing that moves air parcels from the lower to the upper atmosphere.

The weather department has forecast showers across Bangladesh in 24 hours commencing 9 am on Monday.
“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions; at a few places over Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions and at one or two places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country,” said a Met office bulletin.

The weather office recorded the highest 16 mm rainfall in Nikli of Mymensingh division in 24 hours till 6am on Monday.
The highest temperature was recorded at 35.8 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi, while the lowest temperature was recorded at 24.6 degrees in Sreemangal of Sylhet division.
Meanwhile, the land depression over Chhattisgarh and adjoining area now lies over North Madhya Pradesh of India. It is likely to weaken gradually further.
The axis of monsoon troughs runs through Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, the centre of the Land Depression, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh. One of its associated trough extends up to Northeast Bay, as per the bulletin.
Heat wave likely to abate from Tuesday: Met office
The mild heat wave which is sweeping Rajshahi, Rangpur and Nilphamari districts may abate following showers in parts of country in the next 24 hours, Met office said Monday morning.
“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions; at a few places over Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal and Mymensingh divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi & Dhaka divisions with moderately heavy falls at isolated places over the country,” it said.
Day temperatures may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The highest temperature was recorded 37.5 degrees Celsius in Syedpur while lowest temperature 25.8 degrees Celsius in Kutubdia, Teknaf and Sylhet.
The Met office recorded the highest 48mm rainfall in Sylhet in 24 hours till 6am today (Monday).
The low pressure area over Northwest Bay and adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coast moved northwestwards and merged with the monsoon axis.
The axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh.
Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over the North Bay, it added.
Meanwhile, another flood may hit the low-lying areas of the northern districts in the last week of July. And the flood situation may worsen in the first week of August, according to Bangladesh Weather Observatory Team (BWOT), an independent weather research group.
Met office predicts more monsoon rains across country
Amid worsening flood situation in parts of Bangladesh, the meteorological department forecast more downpour in 24 hours commencing 9am on Monday due to active monsoon over Bangladesh.

“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisins,” according to a regular Met Office bulletin.
Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country. At the same time, with a temporary gusty wind, its speed may increase from 30 to 40 kph.
Meanwhile, the Met Office recorded the highest 242mm rainfall in Chattogram in 24 hours till 6am on Monday.

Due to heavy rainfall, landslides may occur at places over the hilly regions of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, said the met office in their latest warning.
