Cautionary signal 3 for maritime ports
The country’s maritime ports have been advised to hoist the cautionary signal three as steep pressure gradient lies over the North Bay and adjoining areas.
Under its influence Squally weather may affect the maritime ports in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra, North Bay and adjoining areas of Bangladesh, according to a Met office bulletin.

"All boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice," it added.
Besides, the low over Telangana and adjoining area persists. South-west Monsoon has withdrawn from northern part of the country.
Monsoon is fairly active elsewhere over the country and moderate over North Bay, said the Met office.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in most parts of the country in the next 24 hours commencing 9 am Monday, it said.
Day and night temperature may fall by 1-2 degree Celsius over the country.

The country’s maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist the mast local cautionary signal three to alert vessels of a possible squall.
The weather office's advisory for cautionary signal number three -- which means that a depression has formed and may affect the ports later -- comes under the influence of a Low pressure over Northwest Bay and adjoining Bangladesh –West Bengal coast.
Squally weather is likely to affect the maritime ports, the North Bay, and the adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, according to the Met office.
"All boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice," it added.
It is likely to move in a west-north-westerly direction, according to the forecast.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur across most parts of the country in the next 24 hours until 9 am Wednesday under the impact of the low, Bangladesh Meteorological Department said.
Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
Deep depression weakened into depression, Maritime ports asked to lower signal
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower signal as the deep depression over Odisha-Jarkhand and adjoining area moved west-northwestwards further, weakened into a depression.
It was centered at 3 pm on Tuesday over Chhattisgarh and adjoining area.
It is likely to move in a northwesterly direction further and weaken gradually, said a Met office bulletin.

Squally weather is unlikely over North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to proceed with caution till morning tomorrow.
Maritime ports asked to hoist Cautionary Signal 1
The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra were asked to hoist distant Cautionary Signal 1 on Friday.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said a low pressure area has formed over the East Central Bay and adjoining area.
“It is likely to intensify into a depression and further into a Deep Depression and then into a Cyclonic Storm,” the Met Office bulletin said.
It also urged the fishermen not to venture into the deep sea and advised those who are already in the deep sea to return to the coast by May 23.
Meanwhile, the BMD has forecast rains or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds for parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and one or two areas in Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions, as well as Jashore, Kushtia Cumilla and Noakhali.
The weather may remain mainly dry elsewhere in the country.
A moderate heatwave is sweeping over parts of Bangladesh, including Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions. It may continue, according to the weather forecast.
Day and night temperatures are likely to remain unchanged.
Rain may dampen Eid celebrations
The Met Office has forecast light to moderate rain all over the country during the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department made the forecast with an outlook for the subsequent two days, following the next 24 hours, commencing 6pm Tuesday.
“Light to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty/squally wind is likely to occur at many places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions,” it said.

Some parts of the country might see moderately heavy to heavy falls in the next 24 hours, the Met Office said.
Its forecast said rain and thunder shower activities may decrease in the next five days.
The National Moon Sighting Committee will meet on Wednesday evening to fix the date of Eid-ul-Fitr upon sighting of Shawwal moon.

Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia Eid will be observed on May 13, according to astronomical calculations. This is the first time Saudi announces the date of the Islamic calendar using astronomic technology rather than the traditional visual sighting of the moon.
Nor’wester with rain soothes the city
Nor’wester with thunder, slight hailstorm and long awaited rain shower soothed the Dhaka city and other divisions of the country around 9pm on Sunday.
After a weeklong severe heat wave sweeping across the country the rain shower accompanied by squally winds came as a boon to the city dwellers.
Many parts of Dhaka city have faced short power cuts as the southerly wind swept across the city, temporarily gusting to 30-40 Kph from 10-15 Kph.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department made the forecast of likelihood of Dhaka and seven other divisions witnessing rain in the next 24 hours, commencing at 9 am today.
“Rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty/squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions,” it said.

Mild heat waves were sweeping over different parts of the country including Dhaka.
It was also sweeping over Khulna division and the regions of Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Rangamati, Noakhali and Feni and it may abate from some places, said the Met office bulletin.
12 killed in Gaibandha, Faridpur as nor’wester lashes country
At least twelve people were killed in Gaibandha and Faridpur on Sunday when nor'wester and rain swept over different regions of the country.
In Gaibandha, 5 people died as they were crushed under collapsed tree and house due to the stormy wind and 5 more died later while undergoing treatment.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Goffar, Jahanara Begum, Moyna Begum from Betkapa union of Palashbari Upazila, Sheuli Akter from Fulchhari, Josna, Monir, Arjina, Sayra and the other person was unidentified.
Gaibandha Deputy Commissioner Abdul Matin said many houses collapsed and trees were uprooted during the storm in the afternoon. The victims were killed after being hit by uprooted trees and in house collapse.

Meanwhile, in Alfadanga of Faridpur, a mother and her four months old daughter were killed as a tree branch co on them.
The deceased were identified as Mst. Halima and her daughter Afsana from Bajitpur village of Modhukhali Upazila.
Inclement weather forced suspension of transportation in many places while the power supply was also disrupted until 5 pm in the district.
Meanwhile, the tropical storm, the first of the season, also hit the capital around 6:30pm and lasted for a few minutes, according to the Met Office.

It recorded a wind speed of 68km per hour, said Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque.
The sudden rain caused widespread traffic chaos in the congested city, inflicting suffering on those returning home from work.
Meanwhile, the nor’wester swept over Rajshahi while rain and gusty wind hit Sylhet, Khulna, Jashore and Noakhali.
Met Office has also forecast rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind for one or two places over eight divisions in the next 24 hrs.

The depression over North Andaman Sea and adjoining area moved north-northeastwards and weakened in to a well-marked low and then a low pressure area over North Andaman Sea and adjoining Myanmar coast, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said.
It is likely to become unimportant, BMD said, adding that a trough of Westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining area.
In a regular bulletin, the Met Office said a mild heat wave sweeping over the regions of Rajshahi, Pabna, Chuadanga, Kushtia and Rangamati may continue.
Day temperature may rise slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged all over the country.
Dry conditions expected over Bangladesh
Bangladesh is likely to start Tuesday on a dry note as the sky may remain partly cloudy over Khulna division and elsewhere over the country in the next 24 hours.
