Attack on Ctg police outpost: 2 arrested
Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested two people, including a drug peddler, after some of his associates attacked a police outpost and snatched him away from law enforcers in Chattogram.
The arrestees are Md Hanif, the drug dealer and his brother Yasin, a transgender.
“The duo was arrested from a Dhaka-bound bus in the district’s Bhatiari area around 11:30pm on Tuesday,” said Mainur Rahman Chowdhury, Officer In-charge (OC) of Chandgaon Police Station.
Mohammad Ali Hossain, Deputy Commissioner (DB, North) of CMP, said that details will be known after interrogating Hanif.
The attackers had also taken away a wireless set from Sub-Inspector (SI) Sharif Rokonuzzaman, in-charge of Kalurghat Police Outpost, which was later found abandoned from Moulvibazar Rail Line area of the city.

On Saturday evening, Rokonuzzaman detained Hanif and another drug peddler Sharif from the former’s house in Kalurghat with the contraband drug and took them to Kalurghat Police Outpost.
A while later, Hanif’s associates and some transgender people attacked the outpost and snatched him from police custody.
A clash between the police and the attackers left Hanif’s sister Nazma dead and two policemen injured, said police.
Later, police filed two cases against 14 named and 210 unnamed people for attacking and ransacking the police outpost and possessing drugs. So far, police have detained eight people in connection with the incident.
6 arrested over ex-BCL leader Biplab’s death
Police have arrested six staff of a launch from Keraniganj area of the capital over the death of former BCL leader Duranta Biplab, whose body was found in the Buriganga river on November 12.
The arrestees were Hafez Md Saidur Rahman, 38, Alamin, 35, Md Masud Rana, 38, Emon Hossain, 23, Md Salman, 21, and Ibrahim Khalil, 29. They all are drivers and technical persons of ‘Morning Sun’ launch.
Tipped off, the Detective Brunch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested them after conducting drive in Keraniganj on Saturday, said Deputy Commissioner (DB-Lalbagh Division) of DMP Mashiur Rahman.

Biplab, 51, ex-general secretary of BCL Jahangirnagar University unit and also a former member of the Agriculture and Cooperative Sub-Committee of the Central Awami League, went missing while going to Mohammadpur from Keraniganj to meet his mother on November 7.
The body of was fished out from the Buriganga river in Jajira area of South Keraniganj on November 10.

After scrutinizing the CCTV footage of the area, police confirmed that Biplab drowned in the river when launch ‘Morning Sun’ hit his boat on his way back to home for delivering vegetables on November 7.
32 BNP men, including ex-councillor, arrested in Dhaka
Police arrested 32 leaders and activists of BNP, including a former councillor, from Mohakhali’s Sena Kalyan Sangstha Tower on Friday night.
Former ward councilor of no 20 ward of Banani unit BNP Abul Kalam Azad was among the arrestees, said Md Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kafrul Police Station.
Police arrested them on a charge of “hatching an anti-government conspiracy”, he said.
They were also accused in different criminal cases, he added.

Arrest, harassment continue to foil anti-government rally in Faridpur, says BNP
BNP Vice Chairman Dr AZM Zahid Hossain on Wednesday accused police of harassing party members and their families ahead of their anti-government protest in Faridpur on Saturday.
Zahid made the allegations at a press briefing held at Faridpur Press Club on Wednesday noon.
“On Tuesday, police arrested eight of our activists from Nagarkanda upazila and one from Faridpur Sadar upazila. Besides, police raided the houses of five of our party members and harassed their family members,” Zahid Jahid.

He said that BNP activists and leaders will defy all the obstacles, including a politically motivated transport strike, allegedly influenced by the government.
He said that the opposition people will start reaching the venue from Thursday—two days before the scheduled protest.
“The entire area stretching from Komorpur Abdul Aziz Institute field to Faridpur town will turn into a sea of people during our rally on Saturday,” Zahid hoped.
Shama Obaid, organising secretary of BNP, said that the ruling Awami League (AL) has announced a programme for Friday to foil their rally the next day.

“The transport strike on Friday and Saturday is another tactic of the government to prevent our party members from joining the rally. Such plans and strategies won’t work as our party leaders and activists will make our rally successful against all odds,” said Shama.
Jahirul Haque Shahjada Mia, Advisor of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf, Joint Secretary of Mahila Dal, among others, were present at the press briefing.
Five members of robbery gang arrested in Narayanganj: Police
Police say they have arrested five members of an inter-district robbery gang while they were preparing to rob a power sub-station in Golakandail area under Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj.
Among the five arrested, four are from Chattogram and one is from Cumilla. Police said that all of them are involved with a Chattogram-based robbery gang and there are numerous cases pending against them with different police stations across the country.
According to Sheikh Billal Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police of Narayanganj district, a 15-member robbery gang was preparing to break into a 400/230kv power sub-station operated under Power Grid of Bangladesh with locally-made weapons on Sunday night.

“Upon receiving the information, police conducted a drive and cordoned off the power sub-station. Although most of the robbers fled, police were able to arrest five of them from the spot. Besides, a truck used in robbery was also seized,” said Billal.
Billal added that a case was filed with Rupganj police station in this regard and the arrestees were produced before the court on Monday.
Anti-militancy drive in hills: 7 Jama'atul Ansar members, 3 separatists held
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) claimed to have arrested seven members of new militant outfit Jama'atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya and three of a separatist organisation from Bandarban and Rangamati Thursday night.
During the operation by RAB against suspected militants in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), a large number of weapons and ammunition were also seized, ASP Imran Khan of RAB Headquarters (media wing), said.
On October 17, the government announced a ban on tourists travelling to the country's mountainous region bordering India and Myanmar after launching the anti-militancy operation of RAB and Bangladesh Army.

Multiple separatist groups in the CHT may have been harbouring members of Jama'atul Ansar and allowing them to use the area to train recruits.
RAB said this on October 10 after arresting 12 suspected members of the new militant outfit, formed by former members of banned Islamist groups Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, Harkat-ul Jihad al-Islami Bangladesh and Ansar Al Islam.
5 arrested by RAB, inc. three youths who left home for militancy
Five men, including three youths, who apparently left home to join militant groups have been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) from the capital's Jatrabari and Keraniganj.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of Rab’s Legal and Media Wing, also revealed in a briefing Monday that they have identified a total of 55 reportedly missing from different districts, who were suspected to leave home to join militant groups.
Of the five arrested today, two are relatively senior, working with the group as a host and fund supplier of the militant group, he said.

The arrestees were identified as militant group member Shah Md Habibullah, 32, Neyamat Ullah, 43, from Cumilla and missing youths Saiful Islam, 19, from Noakhali, Md Hossain,22, and Rakib Hasnat Niloy, 28 from Dhaka.
They were all arrested on Sunday night along with leaflets, books of extremist messages from the city’s Jatrabari and Keraniganj area during a drive, said the Rab commander..
On August 23, eight youths from Cumilla sadar upazila went missing and a general diary was lodged with police in this regard after two days. The incident sparked a huge sensation across media and social media and Rab started a detective investigation to rescue the victims and arrest the accused.
On September 1, one of the missing youths, Shartaz Islam Niloy, 22, returned home.
On October 6, Rab arrested seven people including four missing youths for involvement with a militant group from a drive conducted in Munshiganj, Naryanganj and Mymensingh following the information collected from questioning Niloy.
On interrogation, the arrestees revealed that initially the members of the organization used to target youths from different parts of the country, including Cumilla.

Later they incited the youths with extremism by showing different videos of persecution of Muslims and encouraged them to get separated from their families to prepare for armed attacks.
Arrested Hossain left home a year ago, Saiful one and a half months ago Rakib disappeared two months ago from his home.
Rab Commander Khandaker Al Moin said the missing youths were sent to various areas including Patuakhali and Bhola for training in armed attacks.
The youths were kept in different safe houses under the supervision of different persons in Patuakhali area and provided various training on physical exercise and militancy in different Char areas of Patuakhali and Bhola.
Also, as a strategy to stay under cover, they were given technical training in various fields like masons, painters, electricians.
Unspeakable: Local AL leader held for killing newborn he fathered in Sylhet
Police on Friday arrested a local Awami League (AL) leader for strangling to death a newborn he himself fathered with a widow in Mujibnagar village under Sylhet’s Jaintapur upazila.
The arrestee has been identified as Fakhrul Islam, member of No 1 Nijpat Union Parishad and Vice president of No 2 Ward unit of AL.
According to police, Fakhrul developed an illicit relationship with Sharufa Begum, a widow for ten years, after her husband’s death. Fakhrul was assisted by two people, namely Suhel Ahmad and Jamir Uddin, in this crime. Sharufa got pregnant recently and gave birth to a baby boy on Friday.

Upon hearing about the birth of the child, Fakhrul strangulated the newborn to death and buried it based on the counsel of Suhel and Jamir. The widow informed the locals about the matter, who then called up the police for taking action against the killers.
“We’ve recovered the body of the newborn and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for DNA test. Also, we’ve arrested Fakhrul and looking for the other two accused. The victim has filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act for infant killing,” said Golam Dastgir Ahmad, Officer In-charge (OC) of Jaintapur Model Police Station.
Chhatra League trio arrested for extortion in Faridpur
Police arrested three Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men including two leaders on charge of extortion from a road construction contractor on Thursday.
The arrestees were identified as Saltha upazila unit BCL Vice Presidents Imamul Khan, Abu Musa Prince, and activist Jasim Molla.
They were sent to jail through a Faridpur court on Friday, said Md Sadik Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Saltha Police Station.
According to the case statement and locals, a contractor called ‘Tasa Construction’ was carrying out carpeting work on a 2-kilometer stretch of road in the Saltha College Road area.
A group of youths numbering eight to ten allegedly led by the BCL leaders accosted a trolley driver who was engaged in supplying construction materials for the road, and asked him to pay Tk 1 lakh.

Chuadanga double murder: Four held, belongings of elderly couple recovered
Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested four people from different parts of Chuadanga district in connection with the murder of an elderly couple in Alamdanga municipality on September 24.
The arrestees have been identified as Shahabul Haque, son of Bazlur Rahman, Rajib Hossain, son of Pintu Rahman, Bidyut Ali, son of Masud Ali, and Sakil Hossain, son of Taj Uddin of the upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, cops carried out separate drives across the district and made the arrests, said Abdullah Al-Mamun, superintendent of Chuadanga Police.
Police also recovered hand bags, Tk 43,000 in cash, mobile phones and other belongings of the couple from the possession of the accused.
They will be produced in a court later in the day.
On September 24, Najir Uddin, 70, and his wife Farida Khatun, 60, were found murdered in their house in the Alamdanga municipality area of Chuadanga district.
Daliara Parvin Shila, daughter of the couple, lodged a complaint with Alamdanga police, following which an FIR for murder was filed.
